Arizona drivers can now store their vehicle registration and title in the Arizona Wallet app, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Monday, adding a document layer to the state's existing mobile ID infrastructure.

The new feature lets users view vehicle documents and receive alerts before their registration expires, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM. The announcement was also confirmed by the ADOT press release and covered by 12News and AZFamily.

The update does not replace the glove box. ADOT spokesperson Bill Lamareaux told KTAR that drivers should continue carrying physical copies of registration, title, and proof of insurance, noting that "People should still keep the physical documents for instances where the officer or agency does not have a way to verify or confirm the digital version."

Michael Cryderman, director of the ADOT Motor Vehicle Division, said in a news release that the feature is designed to "help get Arizona residents out of the line and safely on the road."

Prior to this update, Arizona had already allowed residents to store a digital driver's license or ID in Apple, Google, or Samsung wallets. The Arizona Wallet app expands that to vehicle-specific documents.

ADOT has not announced a timeline for broader acceptance of digital vehicle documents by law enforcement agencies statewide.
