Maricopa Battalion Chief Jim Lairmore said crews made a quick, aggressive attack and kept the fire contained to the kitchen. Firefighters also prevented the blaze from spreading to the upper floor.
Lairmore said the occupants were evacuated due to carcinogens in the air and will be able to return home in 24 hours. The home sustained only water damage.
