A north Phoenix man is facing a second-degree murder charge after police say he shot and killed his father during an argument early Tuesday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers responded to a shooting call at a home near North Valley Parkway and Dove Valley Road at approximately 12:40 a.m. They surrounded the residence and ordered all occupants to exit. Joseph Gabriel Peixotto, 28, came out and was taken into custody. Officers then entered the home and found his father, Joseph Elmer Peixotto, 50, suffering from a gunshot wound. Fire department responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

The younger Peixotto was transported to police headquarters for questioning before being booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million.

Phoenix PD Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory that preliminary information indicates the two were in a verbal argument before the shooting. Fox 10 Phoenix also reported on the arrest.

No additional suspects were named. The investigation is ongoing.
