Professional Bull Riders will bring its world championship to the Valley for the first time, with Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale set to host the 2027 PBR World Finals Championship from May 20-23, 2027, the organization announced Wednesday.

The Glendale stop is the back half of a split-city format. Opening rounds take place May 6-9 at Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, before the top riders and bulls travel west for the title weekend. The event had been held in Las Vegas from 1994 through 2021, then moved to Fort Worth in 2022.

The announcement follows a multi-year partnership between TKO Group Holdings, Inc. and the Arizona Sports & Events Alliance to attract major live events to the state. PBR CEO and Commissioner Sean Gleason said in a press release that the organization has held events at Desert Diamond Arena for more than a decade and cited Arizona's track record hosting Super Bowls, College Football Playoff games, and the Fiesta Bowl.

The Glendale market has developed into a base for the sport since the Arizona Ridge Riders were established as one of the league's founding PBR Teams franchises in 2022. Jay Parry, president and CEO of the Arizona Sports & Events Alliance, said the state provides the right backdrop for the event.

Tickets for the championship weekend are already on sale. The announcement was also reported by azcentral and Sports Business Journal.
