A wine bar is judged by three things: the by-the-glass program, the sommelier on the floor, and whether the room feels like you belong there. Here are Scottsdale's working short-list, ranked.
1. Hidden Track Bottle Shop
The retail-meets-bar concept in Old Town. Buy a bottle off the shelf, drink it on premise for a $20 corkage — the best wine value in the city by a mile. The pours by the glass rotate weekly and they actually taste good. Small plates are surprisingly serious; ask the staff what pairs with what you're drinking.
2. Postino WineCafe Arcadia
The flagship Postino. The bruschetta board + bottle deal at certain hours is the city's best value, but the real list rewards exploring beyond the by-glass pours. Patio is massive and designed for lingering.
3. Atlas Bistro
BYOB-only, on Scottsdale Road — bring something serious from your cellar. The $25 corkage is the deal. The chef's tasting menu is the draw; pair it with whatever you brought.
4. The Mission Old Town
Latin-leaning food, but the Spanish and South American list is the most adventurous in town. The sherry program is unusual for Scottsdale. You'll find things here that aren't on every other list.
5. Jade Bar at Sanctuary on Camelback
View bar more than wine bar, but the list is deeper than the casual setting suggests. Book the patio at sunset. The wine program pretends not to care but it does.
6. Talavera at the Four Seasons
Not a wine bar per se, but the sommelier program is the metro's best. Sit at the bar, order by the half-glass, ask for the off-list recommendations. The staff doesn't rush you.
7. FnB
Charleen Badman's room. Pavle Milic's wine program is rigorously Arizona — the deepest local-wine-only list in the state. If you want to understand Arizona wine, you start here.
8. Citizen Public House
Old Town. Compact list, well-curated, focused on small producers. The kind of room where the bartender actually knows what they're pouring.
9. Weft & Warp at Andaz Scottsdale
The garden patio is the room — mature shade trees, private feel. Modern Sonoran food pairs to a list that leans Italian and Spanish. Weekend lunch is peak.
10. Cala at Senna House
Coastal Mediterranean, restaurant-bar hybrid. Strong rosé section in season. Clean, modern room that doesn't distract from what's in the glass.
What's next: Watch for Pavle Milic's next venture. Anything he's pouring is worth driving for — the man thinks differently about wine than everyone else in town.
